JEFFERSON RISE CHARTER SCHOOL HIRES LEAD FOUNDER KATHLEEN SULLIVAN AS HEAD OF SCHOOL
September 29, 2014 – On Wednesday, September 24, 2014 the Jefferson RISE Charter School Board of Directors unanimously approved the hiring of Lead Founder and Building Excellent Schools Fellow Kathleen Sullivan effective immediately.
Ms. Sullivan has a track record of success working in urban education. As a 2013 Fellow with the nationally recognized Building Excellent Schools, she conducted over 40 school visits and completed training to design, found, lead, and sustain a high performing charter school in Jefferson Parish. Ms. Sullivan began her work as an educator in the urban centers of Connecticut mentoring and teaching students enrolled in an afterschool anger management program. Her formal teaching career was launched in Bridgeport, CT, where she taught high school Chemistry for five years. Ms. Sullivan has also worked as a Professional Development Designer and Learning Team Leader for Teach for America, and is currently a Certified Reading Apprenticeship Consultant for the Strategic Literacy Initiative. “Kathleen is a passionate and proven educator who has demonstrated her leadership by working the past 18 months to bring greater choice to the parents of Jefferson Parish,” Board member Robert Spencer states. “The Board looks forward to working with her to ensure all scholars of Jefferson RISE are prepared for college and professional careers.”
Ms. Sullivan holds a Master’s Degree in Teacher Leadership from University of Bridgeport and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Chemistry from Fairfield University.
