Why Jefferson RISE?

WE BELIEVE THAT EVERY CHILD DESERVES A SCHOOL THAT WELCOMES THEM, PUSHES THEM TO ACHIEVE, AND SUPPORTS THEM IN DOING SO.

Our model is structured to support all students.

Approximately 2/3 of our students come to us behind grade level. Our teachers work tirelessly to provide interventions, including after school tutoring, intervention classes, and incorporating research based programs into their lessons (including iReady and Edgenuity). RISE's goal is for each student to grow 1.5 years for every year they are at RISE. Students who are behind often show the most growth, and our goal is to catch them up to grade level as quickly as possible.

I see a difference in my son's confidence in himself. He now has the belief in his ability to excel academically. The staff gave him the confidence to trust in his own capabilities! The teachers were exceptional with corresponding with me on his progress. …Ms. Askar taught my son to say to himself ‘It's not the grades, it's the progress.'

Approximately 1/3 of our students come to us on or above grade level. It's our job to push them even further. With elective classes, advanced credit programs (Edgenuity), and Gifted/Talented services, RISE continues to challenge all students.

We chose Jefferson RISE because of their vision and their mission. The school's focus and emphasis on college preparedness is unmatched in other local public schools. In addition, the vibrant and diverse student body and faculty have delivered invaluable and enriching social and cultural lessons which have expanded her borders in a bright and exciting way.

RISE offers a full range of student support services.

  • Special Education: Jefferson RISE, in full accordance with all state and federal laws, provides special education services to student. Any student coming in with an IEP from another school will meet with the Director of Special Education to ensure RISE provides all necessary accommodations and modifications. If a parent or staff member identifies a student as a potential candidate for Special Education, RISE works with JPPSS to complete an evaluation.

  • Speech, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Other Services: Jefferson RISE provides all services as outlined in a student's IEP, including but not limited to speech, PT, and OT.

  • 504 Plans: Similarly to IEPs, Jefferson RISE honors 504 plans from previous schools and works with parents and teachers to ensure that each student has the best plan for his or her success.

  • English Language Learners: RISE's student population consists of approximately 9% ELL students. We use Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol, supporting students in a variety of languages including Spanish, Vietnamese, and Arabic.

  • Intervention: If a student enters RISE significantly behind grade level, he or she will be supported by a series of interventions, including but not limited to iReady, Edgenuity credit recovery, intervention classes, and additional one-on-one or small group support.

  • Gifted/Talented: RISE provides both gifted and talented services in arts, theater, and more. Students with a Gifted/Talented IEP are automatically enrolled in RISE's G/T program.

Our model is built on rigorous core content classes, mandatory enrichment classes, and choice elective classes.

  • Core Content: With the goal of preparing every student for a four-year college and professional career, Jefferson RISE students attend English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics, science, and social studies classes each day. These classes are aligned with the Common Core Standards and Louisiana Grade Level Expectations. Our teachers design core content materials using national and state resources, making it relevant and rigorous for our students.

  • Mandatory Enrichment: Our students attend a different mandatory enrichment each day four days per week. Mandatory enrichments include College and Career Prep, physical education, and learning lab.

  • Choice Electives: Offered four times per week, students sign up for an elective each trimester. Elective choices vary, but include: theater, NOLA Code, band, art, Lit to Life (book club), media arts, and more.
